Corms
Solid modified stem consisting of a swollen base of a stem axis
enclosed by dry, scalelike leaves. Also have fi-brous and contractile
roots. Example: gladiolus
Methods of propagation
1. New corms- A new corm forms at
the base of the shoot axis, forming on top of the old corm.
2. Cormels- Miniature corms that form
between the old and new corms. Produces foliage only during first
season. Then forms a new corm at base of stem axis as in normal
corms. This corm itself requires about 2 years to reach flowering
size.
3. Division - Cut large corm into pieces,
each having a bud.
