Tuberous Roots

Thickened, tuberous growth of secondary roots. As in roots, there are NO NODES or INTERNODES present. Shoot buds are produced only on proximal end.
Example: Sweet potato, dahlia

Methods of propagation

1. Division - Divide crown so that each section contains a shoot bud. Tuberous roots are biennial.
2. Adventitious shoots - Shoots develop from roots when placed in sand and are covered. Sand is added to cover base of shoots and adventitious roots form. "Slips" thus formed can be removed and planted. Can cut root into pieces. This destroys the apical dominance and more shoots are formed. Limited (example: sweet potato).
