Pierre Garnier

Garnier, Piere. A MEDICAL JOURNEY IN CALIFORNIA. Los Angeles: Zeitlin & Ver Brugge, 1967.
The complete text of a rare French account of early Gold Rush California. Except for an early report written by a military surgeon and published by the California Historical Society in 1942, it is the first description of California written by a bona fide physician. It describes conditions for a period on which there is a dearth of authentic observations made by reliable witnesses and should be of value to social as well as to medical historians.
