Low Magnification View

The cell bodies of neurons which are found within the central nervous system are located in the gray matter. In this slide of the cerebellum, identify the neuron and other layers of the fish cerebellum.
Identify three layers of the cerebellum. The molecular layer, which contains two types of small neurons (satellite and basket cells), the dendrites of Purkinje neurons from the Purkinje layer and the dendrites of Golgi type II cells from the granular layer and axons of granule cells. The Purkinje cell layer contains very large neurons with enormous dendritic aberrations which project into the molecular layer. The axons of Purkinje cells project deep into the brain stem. The granular layer is the dense layer of small neurons which contains granule cells, Golgi type II cells and bundles of axons and dendrites called glomeruli.
