Connective tissue cell

Nerve cell processes traveling a peripheral nerve are surrounded by Schwann cells. This series of electron micrographs shows the way in which axons are surrounded by Schwann cells. Both myelinated and unmyelinated fibers are found in the same fascicle. The Schwann cell myelinates only one axon, but can surround many axons when it does not myelinate them.
