Myelinated axon
Unmyelinated axons
Endoneurium

Nerve cell processes traveling a peripheral nerve are surrounded by Schwann cells. This series of electron micrographs shows the way in which axons are surrounded by Schwann cells. The Schwann cell myelinates only one axon, but can surround many axons when it does not myelinate them. This secton shows several myelinated fiber and many unmyelinated fibers in this fascicle.
