| INFUNDIBULUM OF BIRDS. The oviduct of birds has five parts. It takes about 25 hours for an egg to travel the length of the oviduct. The first part of the oviduct is the infundibulum. The infundibulum has a large, funnel-like opening which narrows to a neck. The epithelium of the infundibulum is simple columnar epithelium with ciliated cells. There are simple glands at the base of the infolding of the epithelium. The egg spends approximately 15 minutes in the infundibulum, where it receives the first outer layer of dense albumen. |
