| The larynx is a musculocartilaginous organ guarding the entrance to the trachea. The larynx serves as an air passageway, aids vocalization, participates in coughing, and prevents the inspiration of foreign material. The hyoid apparatus is an articulation of bones that acts to suspend the tongue and the larynx beneath the skull. The trachea carries air to the lungs. |
