| The kidney of mammals contains both cortex and medulla. The majority of the nephrons in the mammalian kidney contain a loop of Henle which extends down into the medulla. The portions of the nephron which are found in the cortex include: 1. glomerulus, 2. proximal convoluted tubule, 3. distal convoluted tubule, 4. collecting duct 5. vessels. The epithelium lining the proximal convoluted tubule is thicker and contains more extensive microvilli than those of the distal convoluted tubule. |
