LIVER ULTRASTRUCTURE, PLATES AND TUBULES. Note the close association of hepatocytes and sinusoids. The hepatic sinusoids are the diameter of capillaries, but usually lack a basal lamina. This, plus large fenestrae, permit rapid passage of nutrients from blood to perisinusoidal space (of Disse). Some species have an intrasinusoidal, resident macrophage, the Kupffer cell. Liver cells store carbohydrates in the form of glycogen.
