Mammal, intrapulmonary bronchus (LM, Medium)

Structure List
Epithelium
Submucosa
Smooth muscle
Cartilage & perichondrium

The conducting airways in mammals have many generations of branching. As the branches become more distal from the trachea and closer to the gas exchange area, the amount of cartilage is reduced in the adventitia and there is an increase in smooth muscle. The epithelium remains pseudostratified columnar with goblet cells, but the number of glands in the submucosa and their size are greatly reduced. Using this specimen, identify the mucosa and its epithelium, the submucosa and the cartilage plates in the adventitia.
