| ALVEOLAR DUCTS arise from the respiratory bronchioles. They are like halls with rooms (alveoli) opening into them. There are some distinguishing features: lined by simple squamous or cuboidal epithelium, and smooth muscle cells are prominent around the openings into the alveoli. |
