Audio Practice
revised
April 15, 2005
- Listening comprehension:
If you weren't able to do it at home, first finish your homework by answering
the questions on
workbook p. 13, section two. Go to the LLC web
site, click on Course Materials, log on with your Kerberos password, select
Integrated Chinese, Workbook level 1 part 2, and click on the two passages
for lesson 13. This will count as part of your graded homework turned
in today.
- Speaking practice (record
your voice):
- Repeat after the speaker in the sound files,
and record your voice using Audacity. Play back each sentence to match your
pronunciation with the native speaker. Do each sentence several times until
your pronunciation is as close as possible. You do not need
to save these files.
- Open Audacity, and also open
this sound
files page. Listen to each question, then record your answer
in Audacity. When you have finished, export the file and save
it in the Jacob Students folder as an
MP3 file. Before you close Audacity, double-check to make sure the
file plays properly in Windows Media Player.
- Pattern practice:
Go to
the first Lesson 13 sentence
pattern for time-duration complement. Read the pattern, go on to the second
pattern, and then do all the practice exercises.
- Video scavenger hunt: View
this short video
clip that takes place in a library. See how many of the questions
you can answer correctly. Write down any expressions you can recognize.
On
a blank piece of paper, write the answers
in Chinese.
- Vocabulary
practice: Choose one or more of the following ways to reinforce
vocabulary:
- Animated characters.
See how each character is written, and notice the radicals in red. make two
columns on your workbook page, write the characters from the lesson and write
the radical next to each character. Do as many as you can.
- UC Berkeley listening
exercises for lesson 13 (please note that they are in simplified characters,
but the listening part will still work).
- Play the vocabulary
quiz game for this lesson (select "large fonts" first).
- Play these vocabulary games (choose
flashcards, matching, concentration, or word search): pinyin-English,
characters-pinyin, characters-English.
