The March 8th workshop in the "More Thoughtful Teaching" (MTT) series featured a "coaches' tabls" for each topic listed below. At each table, instructors and staff offered guidance and suggestions based on their classroom and teaching experience. The resource materials distributed at each coaches' table are available online by clicking on the session titles that appear below. 1. Assessing Student Learning
(Ken Shackel, Plant Sciences; Barbara Mills, Teaching Resources Center; Beth Post, Psychology):
A review of testing and evaluation practices, learning objectives, and strategies for assessing student learning.

2. Using Audio to Support Teaching
(Jon Wagner, Education and Teaching Resources Center; Steve Faith, Mediaworks; Graham Fogg, Land, Air and Water Resources): Podcasting lectures and course content; assigning online audio resources as course readings; giving students audio commentaries on their papers and exams; doing student audio projects.

3. Teaching Large Classes
(Susan Keen, Evolution and Ecology; Kern Holoman, Music):
Using technology to manage large classes; technology support for lecturing; using technology tools for feedback to students; assigning and commenting on student writing.

4. SmartSite: Introductions and Objectives
(Kirk Alexander, Mediaworks; Joe Kiskis, Physics; Leslie Madsen-Brooks, Mediaworks):
A review of SmartSite support, tools and contexts; when and how to use SmartSite for different class assignments and contexts.

5. Wikis
(Don Meisenheimer, University Writing Program; Roger McDonald, Nutrition; Don Strong, Evolution and Ecology):
Harness the energy of your class participants using SmartSite's collaborative wiki tool.

6. Teaching with Images
(Amy Clarke, University Writing Program; Katharine Burnett, Art History):
Learn innovative ways to represent course concepts through visual models and images.

7. Grading Tools and Strategies
(Ellen Lange, Linguistics; Andy Jones, University Writing Program, Mediaworks, and Teaching Resources Center):
Lighten the grading "paper load" using SmartSite, Microsoft Word autocorrect, audio comments, and Text Expander tools.

8. TRC Resources for Faculty
Help design and give feedback on the faculty section of the new TRC website.
