Join Our Peer Advising Team at the TRC!

To apply for one of our paid Transfer and Reentry Peer Advisor positions complete the online application.  Note that we typically hire new Peer Advisors in the Winter Quarter, so incoming peer staff can attend the required Spring training course. 

Winter 2025 update: The TRC is hiring new Peer Advisors for the 2025-2026 academic school year. Application deadline is January 29th, 2025 at 4:00 PM.  To apply, complete the online application.  You will also be asked to submit a copy of your resume.

The TRC Peer Advisors strive to be a first point of contact for Transfer and Reentry students and to assist them in navigating the University and providing referrals when appropriate, planning and facilitating various events each quarter, and support in running the center on a day-to-day basis.

Brief Essay Questions

In addition to the general questions you will need to answer, there will be a set of required Brief Essay Questions. These questions will be free response. It is a mandatory section of the application. Do not put "N/A" for any of the required questions. If you do not provide a response for mandatory questions, your application will be marked as "Incomplete" and will not move forward to being reviewed for candidacy. You must read through the instructions of each prompt carefully and make sure to answer and provide information for each part of a prompt.

For those who would like to review the Brief Essay Questions in advance, these will be on the application:

  • Please share what interests you about this position.
  • If selected for this position, how would you hope to grow both personally and professionally?
  • Please provide a brief summary of your prior work experience
  • Describe your advising skills and experiences in both formal and informal advising situations.
  • Describe your skills and experiences working with individuals from diverse backgrounds (consider multiple aspects of diversity).
  • Explain your skills and experience working with social media (Instagram, Discord, Facebook, etc.).
  • Explain your skills and experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel), Canva, Photoshop, video editing, and any other computer applications.
  • Share any experience you have with graphic art (flyers, brochures, posters, etc.) and marketing events.
  • Share your experience coordinating events and facilitating/working with groups of people.

We will be offering three Info Session opportunities in January for students who are interested in learning more about the Peer Advisor opportunity, have space to ask questions, and meet some members of the team. 

  • Wednesday, January 8th @ 9:00 - 10:00 AM via Zoom
  • Friday, January 17th @ 12:00 - 1:00 PM via In-Person at The Green Community Center
  • Monday, January 27th @ 6:00 - 7:00 PM via Zoom

Frequently Asked Questions for Winter Application Cycle

  • When is the deadline to apply?
    • The deadline to apply for the 2025-2026 position is Wednesday, January 29th at 4:00pm. We encourage applicants to apply sooner, taking the time to put together a solid application.  
  • Where can I apply?
  • I'm a reentry student.  Can I apply?
    • Absolutely! Our Peer Advisor positions are specifically meant for students who are part of the transfer and/or reentry community. 
  • Is work study eligibility required?
    • No, while we highly encourage those with work study to apply, it is not a requirement.
  • Will I have to work over the summer?
    • Yes.  TRC Peers need to work at least a portion of the summer to continue training, plan for the upcoming school year, and cover hours at the front desk.
  • When will I be notified if I am hired?
    • We will inform those we intend to hire during the Pass II registration interval in order to allow time for our new hires to register for our required Spring training course. 
  • Is the Spring course required?
    • Yes, it is required. The work we do in the TRC is collaborative and this begins in the Spring training course. 
  • Do I get paid for the Spring quarter training course? 
    • No, because you do get 2 academic units.
  • What is the CRN for the course?
    • The CRN will be given to the students hired for the position once they are notified and accept the position.
