Priority Registration for Student Parents and Caregivers

To support undergraduate students who are caring for either children or adult family members, UC Davis has a process for these students to apply to receive priority registration. Priority registration enables students to receive an earlier Pass time for course registration. The program is intended to alleviate complications related to scheduling conflicts between parental and caregiving responsibilities and UC Davis classes and course work.

Eligibility

  • Student parents: if you are responsible for (or imminently will be responsible for) providing for a child of any age. They may be a biological parent, stepparent, unmarried coparent, adoptive parent, foster parent, guardian, grandparent, extended family member or sibling caregiver. Eligibility is also open to students who are pregnant or have partners who are expecting, especially if the due date occurs before or during the next academic year.
  • Student caregivers: if you have adult family members (ages 18 and older) who receive more than half of their support/care from you due to disabilities and/or medical needs.
  • Please note that students across the immigration status spectrum are eligible to apply.

Application Process

New starting in 2024!  If you identified as a student parent when applying to UC Davis or have already been receiving priority registration, no need to apply again!  You will automatically continue to receive priority registration for the rest of your time at UCD!

Student Parents

If you identified as a student parent when applying to UC Davis, i.e. you selected that you have children on the UC Admissions Application, you will automatically receive priority registration for your entire time at UC Davis.  If you aren't sure what you selected, contact Marissa at mlweiss@ucdavis.edu.

If you become a parent after admission to UC Davis, have been readmitted after a break from school and your last enrolled quarter was prior to Fall 2024, or did not identify as a parent on the UC Admissions Application, you can apply at any time by completing the application.  Please note that if you apply after the priority registration deadline has passed for the upcoming quarter, your priority status will begin the following quarter.  The registration calendar listing the dates when pass time are available are on the Office of the University Registrar's website.
